MORE STUPIDS x Printed Matter launch!
Plus Instagram Office Hours and a tutorial on meaning-making
At long last, Emmy Bright's brilliant and delightful MORE STUPIDS officially launches. Join us in the coming days as we celebrate!
Thursday, September 3rd, 2pm EST: the Launch of MORE STUPIDS at Printed Matter!
Please join Emmy Bright and Printed Matter for a tarot-esque tutorial and reading from MORE STUPIDS. MORE STUPIDS is a book and deck that commingles autobiography, critical theory, diagrams and dumb jokes. You may use the set in many ways. None are correct. The book is an invitation, as Emmy writes, to “upend normative good sense in order to find something more complex, gnarly, and real.”
In this video, Emmy will discuss her studio practice of making “STUPIDS,” how she came to her own tarot-esque genre, and how you can use the deck to create your own spreads for readings. Following a brief demonstration of how we can read images, cards, meaning and each other, Emmy invites us to experience MORE STUPIDS in the form of a poetic lecture, that includes both artworks and passages from the book.
To participate in the event, check the link at 2pm on Thursday! (You can also receive the link by subscribing to Printed Matter’s newsletter). We’ll “see” you there!
Throughout the month, Emmy will be offering irregular readings from the MORE STUPIDS during her Instagram Live “Office Hours.” Emmy asks, “Do you need advice about your writing practice? A car? A child? Whatever comes up! Join for a free reading of your heart’s questions. You probably won’t regret it.” Follow Emmy on instagram at @sleepylabright to catch her interpreting our troubles during the next office hour. Maybe even have your own cards read!
On September 15th, we and Wendy’s Subway will host a workshop with Emmy in which she'll teach you more about using the deck as an interpretative guide, as well as about different spreads and methods for meaning-making. For this, we recommend having a copy of the deck, so get ahold of yours now! You can order a copy directly from us, or ask your favorite local bookstore to order a copy through Small Press Distribution (SPD). RSVP here to attend.
In the spirit of MORE STUPIDS, we hope you are taking some time to reflect in new ways,
