Following the San Antonio mayor’s declaration of a state of emergency due to COVID-19, a large number of publishers and attendees decided not to attend #AWP2020. As you likely know, 3 Hole also decided not to attend—check out our instagram post here for more details on that decision.
Some exciting things happening this weekend instead!
Instead of meeting folks and sharing our books at AWP, we’re at Wendy’s Subway today holding open hours! Come by and say hello this afternoon and talk more about the press!
In lieu of selling our books at the conference, we are offering all of books for just $10 each in our online shop until tomorrow, with the discount code
CIVICLIFE
.We’re also gearing up for the second meeting of READING ALOUD, which will be held Tuesday, March 17th. Sign up and join us here!
The drama surrounding our nation’s largest book conference inspires us to be vocal about the importance of healthcare reform, specifically as it relates to publishing. We cannot adequately serve our artists and our readers if conferences are ghost towns. We cannot support readings and artists’ productions and events if people are worried to gather in public. Civic and cultural life breaks down when our collective health is as poor as the most neglected person's health (which means our collective health is dire). We struggle to support our artists and ourselves when cultural workers are in states of precarity as it relates to debt, work and healthcare. We also believe that it doesn’t have to be this way and that we have reached a breaking point. As a way to channel our frustration into forward movement, 3 Hole endorses BERNIE SANDERS.
Medicare for All and the Green New Deal signal the way forward. Having our basic needs met will allow publishers and artists to be dedicated to our work. We want to operate 3 Hole in a world where access to culture and leisure and time are not a luxury, but afforded to all!
Thanks for joining us in supporting our publishing ecosystem,
Rachel and MML
